And so: it begins…

This is the story of a person named Alastair, and his life leading up to (and beyond) the end of University.

That person is me, and if you’ve come here looking for me, welcome! I hope we can share the time I spend here, writing about the end of my degree and the transition to the working world. If you’ve not come looking for me, stay a while, have a look around. I hope that you may decide to come back another time.

I won’t only discuss my life here, for that would not, at times at least, be of general appeal. I may make observations, amusing or not, or I may simply chat away as if there’s nobody listening.

So, about me. I’m 21, from Bathgate, in West Lothian, and I’m nearly finished a degree in Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering at Edinburgh University. I currently work part-time in John Lewis, here in beautiful Edinburgh. At present, I’m working hard on my dissertation, which is to be finished by the 1st of April, and simultaneously trying to persuade myself to finish my CV and try to find a job. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cycling, walking, playing the piano (whenever I actually have access to one), playing computer games (when I have the time), and listening to music, although there’s nothing wrong with a bit of casual software development now and then. For those of you interested in software development, the languages I know are HTML, PHP, Java, Python, C, Prolog and Perl, although I’m always keen to pick up another (like Ruby, for instance). For those of you not interested in software development, my favourite holiday destination is Switzerland, and I’ve never (so far) been further east than the Czech Republic, nor further west than Iceland (the near-bankrupt country, not the local frozen-food store). This is my blog.

I guess that’ll do for now, it’s been nice to welcome you here. Be sure to visit again!
